Conte blasts Premier League organisers for poorly timed fixtures

Antonio Conte has urged Premier League chiefs to do more to help teams competing in the Champions League to better balance their schedule.

Chelsea are currently in Azerbaijan ahead of their clash with Qarabag on Wednesday night.

The 2450-mile trip is the furthest Chelsea have ever travelled in European competition and Conte is mindful of the six-hour return flight ahead of the Premier League meeting with Liverpool on Saturday.

The Chelsea boss feels the Premier League should be more accommodating to teams fighting on domestic and European fronts.

“I would like to underline that I am talking about all teams that are playing in the Champions League, not only Chelsea,” he said at his press conference. “England needs to try to understand this and try to change something.

“A lot of time there isn’t an English team to win the CL, every team has the possibility to go through. Who prepare this fixtures must pay great attention.

“We are doing our job and it’s important to do it in the best way. We want also a bit of respect for our job.”

Conte was asked what time he expects the Chelsea squad to arrive home on Thursday.

“Maybe four or five o’clock? It depends on some things.

“This is not the first time, imagine to play Manchester City in the same condition. If we won the game the difference was only three points, but now it is nine.

“They must look to change something because it is the best thing for English football.”
