Manchester United never made a deadline-day bid for Riyad Mahrez but his agent tried to push through the deal, according to reports in Algeria.
L’Expression (and we are grateful to Sport Witness for the translation) claim that Mahrez and his representatives were trying to force a late move away from the Foxes but that nobody was interested.
Having chased and failed to sign Ivan Perisic all summer, United were thought to be prime candidates for a new winger, but they remained unmoved by the ‘last push’ from Mahrez’s camp.
According to the Algerian media: ‘In the end, Mahrez is a bit like that mate of yours who chats to loads of girls on a night out but never manages to seal the deal.’
The whereabouts of Mahrez on Deadline Day were unknown after the Algerian FA announced that he had left their camp to negotiate a transfer.
